Fuck. I just had a fender-bender.
I was pulling out of the ZLB parking lot and I misjudged the space and the bumpers of my car and another car kissed.

A piece of my bumper came off and the car had a crack under and to the left of the left tail-light.

I left my card with a note asking them to call me with the estimate. I have $500 deducible so I guess I'm paying for this.

Fuck. There go my savings.

I'm worried because I've never been in a car accident before and I have no idea what this is going to cost me.

1. That stinks.
:( But better to have it happen with no one in the other car.

2. That's true.
I'm glad for that.

It was slo-mo. I wasn't going fast, I was just backing up. :-(

I hate car stuff.

3. That sucks. I'll say this, though...
you left a note. That makes you a better person than a LOT of other people.

Coming from me, I know that's not remotely worth $500 but you deserve praise for it most definitely.

Also, if you believe in statistical incidents, this counts towards car accidents folks are likely going to be involved in.

7. Let's hope I or the other person don't have another one.
Thanks for the kind words.

5. Sorry about your mishap,
but it's good that no one was hurt.

And BIG ACCOLADES to you for leaving a note. Someone put a nice dent in my car and did not own up to it. And what makes it even worse, it happened in my work parking lot! :nuke:

8. Thanks for the kind words.
I'll admit to the first impulse thought of "Oh shit, just get out of here." but I took a deep breath after assessing the damage and wrote a note.

I'm super-grateful that no one was hurt but I'm just bummed about how much this will probably cost me. :-(

Knowing that you possibly work with the "secret car smasher"...

10. Exactly.
That's what my friend said when looked at tonight. "Welcome to the shitty world of plastic cars."

There wouldn't have been a scratch on my old Bronco. That was a fucking car, several tons of American steel.

Sigh.

11. It may not cost you for their car.
The liability parts of your policy have no deductible. Call your insurance agent/company for the fine print. The deductibles apply to your damage, but your car may be fixable for less, especially with used parts and/or your labor.

17. Sorry, sweetie.
Well, car parts are replaceable. People are not. In the scheme of things, you're luckier than you could've been. I once had two fender benders in one month, so don't let it bother you too much. You sound like a real sweetheart. You'll be okay. Don't worry.

I'm not worried about the car (even though fixing it will be a pain in the ass.)

It's just that my savings are going to take a knock over this. I made some decent money before Christmas with some freelance jobs and I didn't even have any plans for the money. I just felt better have a chunk of change in my savings account.

It's one of those days where life feels like that old Paula Abdul song, "Take two steps forward, take three steps back."

Oh, well. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

agree with Mopar151 above - the deductible is for your car - liability covers the other

21. True dat on the bank balance detection.
And they are jealous - fix one, another one breaks.

My Dad claimed that a good "junky" (aka salvage yard operator) Could tell within $5 how much you had in your wallet, and how many small parts you had hidden in your pockets! 'Course, he claimed that he "met his first computer" in 1952 - "A little Jewish guy named Mac, who know where everything was" in a huge military junkyard +/- about 2 feet.
