The Hanks/Aykroyd movie version of Dragnet is reason enough to hate all of the 80s
What an incredibly stupid film with at least three actors who should have known better.

13. And, the big hair.
And, the "fashions". Shoulder pads in women's clothes, the leg warmers, stirrup pants, parachute pants, the trashy Madonna look... (Especially those horrid pointy bras/bustiers she and her imitators wore.) Yeeech!

2. They made up for it with "Spies Like Us".
I love that movie.

Last decent piece of work Tom Hanks ever did.

12. Of course, he helped with the joke about "enhanced interrogation"
Seen from that perspective, the movie was waaaaay ahead of its time!

7. Sacrilege!
"Dragnet" was one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. It was so, so great.

8. Dabney Coleman had a great line:
"Tell you what you can do, Friday, before you go home and start polishing your pennies, why don't you go out there and get my magazines back on the stands where they belong?"

His delivery is just perfect... he was always great as the guy you loved to hate.

Coleman just turned 78 on the 3rd.

9. He's a terrific actor.
I don't think I've ever seen him give a bad performance, even when he's playing awful characters!

17. Slap Maxwell...one of the Top Ten Underappreciated TV Series Of All Time.

It wasn't like "Ed"...a show similar in its eccentricity, but painted into a corner with its endless "Will Ed and Carol end up together" arc, reminiscent of the "Sam & Diane" arc from "Cheers," which was put out of its misery until the final season, THEN resurrected...

Also, "Slap" had Megan Gallagher, an amazing and gorgeous actress who was also Larry Sanders' "first wife" on "The Larry Sanders Show."

10. Actually, I kind of like that movie
Aykroyd had Caddyshack II and Hanks had The Money Pit in that Decade. Also, what about Ishtar or Howard the Duck?

The 80's movies were at a budget disadvantage due to the high cost of cocaine back then.

11. Not great but fairly funny.
Dabney Coleman was pretty funny as the publisher and the final gag about "the virgin Connie Swail" was funny.

18. I enjoyed that movie.
But I hated movies other people liked, like:

"Out of Africa" (I fell asleep)

"The Matrix" (I asked for my money back)

"Jerry Maguire" (WORST.MOVIE.EVER.)

YMMV.

19. The Virgin Connie Swail - we used that as a one-time band name in the late '80s
