Hold your children close

My wife is a biology teacher and has been out on maternity leave with our daughter for the last several months. She received a call yesterday that a fellow teacher in her department had lost her 2 year old daughter. The little girl suffered from seizures and had been undergoing testing. My wife went over to offer comfort and bring food and such.

I held my sleeping daughter close to my chest for hours last night. I can't even imagine.

They also have a 4 year old boy who is realizing little sister won't be back.

So sad.

Of all the losses we can endure, to lose a child is among the worst.

They are, after all, supposed to outlive you...

My deepest condolences to your wife's friend and her family...

2. We went through some scares with ours, mostly really high fevers.

Fortunately we never had a hospitalization issue with any of our three daughters, but when they're at 104+ for days you get worried. In one case we were instructed to alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen every 2 hours (and above normal dose level). Sleepless nights come with the territory.

Ours are now 14, 16, and 18 and I still worry. It just seems wrong for a parent to outlive a child of their own. My younger brother died when he was 13 and I lost a girlfriend who had just turned 17. You never get over things like that.

Hold that little girl tightly.

3. any parents worst nightmare.

4. A boy in my daughter's class was killed by a car four years ago.

They were in third grade at the time. He had a traumatic brain injury and was declared brain dead. The family had to make the call to take him off the machines.

That was the most difficult funeral I have ever attended.

My daughter still talks about Brandon sometimes, and I cry as I write this.

Deepest sympathies to that family, and to all who are touched by this loss--including yours, Nordmadr. The loss of a child is one pain that nobody should have to bear.
