I don't think so.

What a formidable talent is Joan Osborne.

9. Uh, I'm a child of the 1950s and 1960s. I know from Janis, I SAW Janis more than
once, (and may have even shared a bottle of Southern Comfort with her, but Christ how could I remember if I did?), OK? I'm just trying to give some credit where it's due here.

11. Have you heard Susan Tedeschi?
Hails from Boston, and her first CD reminded me of Janis.

Joan is good, but there are better and Susan is definitely one of them.

One of my fav videos of her and her hubs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs50uz3a_-M

and not at ALL hard on the eyes.

She has a new fan, as of now. And I'll go buy some of her CDs tomorrow.

20. I never got to meet the likes of Janis, Jimmy or any of the Doors
But I did get to Jam with many of their contemporaries.

I was just trying to give credit to other folks who might be considered in your paradigm.

And for comparison, here's Joan on the same song.

27. Thank you SO much. My favorite Prine song, and beautifully done by
Ms Tedeschi. Maybe some day I'll dig up one of my old videotapes of me performing it and make it available.

But she sings that song better than I ever could have, even in my prime.

21. God killed Joan Osborne's mainstream career
That was one of the worst songs I've ever heard, and when it was in heavy rotation it was played about six times every hour on every station in every state in the union.

It wasn't until five or six years later that I discovered that she's actually worth listening to.

You're so right, what a voice! I think it's a shame that she never realized the mainstream career that a talent like hers really deserves.

42. Joan's high on my playlist among others...
Maybe it's because I'm a female musician in Massachusetts, but I've been listening to Susan Tedeschi for 10+ years. Since you said you'd never heard of her, I wanted to toss out some of my other favorite women for your enjoyment. These women are not at all in the same style as ST, Joan or Janis but that's partly why I like them - their voices are unique.

Three more from the Massachusetts music scene:

Melissa Ferrick, "Everything I Need" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cgih8LDywM&feature=channel

Dar Williams, "The Christians and The Pagans" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_Xdk4PujOE

Catie Curtis, "People Look Around" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaZiZ4HB93k

And one not...

Beth Orton, "Concrete Sky" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOVMdeODEMg&feature=related
