A teenage passenger on a Queens subway suffered slight burns to her right leg yesterday when her pants were set on fire by a red-hot hair clip stuck into the heater under her seat, officials said.
The incident, which transit veterans said might be unprecedented, unfolded about 12:30 p.m. aboard a Jamaica-bound E train, when the unidentified girl, 13, noticed her pants ablaze.
Heaters on the trains are underneath the bench-type seats, behind a grate.
Transit personnel were alerted, and the girl was taken from the train at the Roosevelt Avenue stop in Jackson Heights. It was unclear how the fire went out.
