Now, I choose not to generalize based on my experiences. I could reasonably assume, based on personal experience, that all women are gold-digging whores. I do not, and will not believe that. The women that have hurt me are exceptions to the rule. The men that are cheaters are exceptions to the rule. Sexism cuts both ways; and we do not need need any more of this bullshit to drive a wedge between reasonably thinking people.

That's what I try to do and I'm becoming more successful at keeping my mouth shut long enough to fully understand a different point of view. Straight, white men in particular need to do that. We've long held a privileged status in society. We've long felt that we were somehow superior to everyone else.

There is a great resistance in many straight white guys to considering that a minority member's point of view is just as valid as their own. I know that because I've felt it in myself and I see it frequently in others. To change you have to take the very humble step of considering that you harbor bigoted attitudes and beliefs even if you think you are a really swell guy.
