Kindergartner Spinkles Marijuana On Lasagna Of Classmate
<snip>

A kindergartner's scattering leafy greens onto his friend's lasagna piqued a cafeteria worker's interest Monday and prompted a police investigation at a North Miami-Dade elementary school.

The mystery ingredient: marijuana.

Both students, the small plastic bag containing the green vegetable matter and the pot-laced entrée were marched to the front office at Gratigny Elementary.

The students eventually returned to class. But now the family of the kindergartner who had the marijuana is under the scrutiny of schools police and state child-welfare authorities.

''The boy is not going to be charged,'' said Mayco Villafaña, spokesman for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. ``The focus is on the child's environment and what issues could have led to a child having a bag of marijuana in school.''

9. Today's Rant: The case for more-flavorful lasagna in school
We seem to have a rash of kindergarteners bringing illegal drugs to school.

This hour's entrant is the child attending kindergarten at Gratigny Elementary School in the Metro-Dade School District who was caught seasoning his friend's lasagna with a green leafy substance he brought from home in a zipper baggie. The teacher confiscated said baggie, along with the seasoned lasagna, and turned it over to the school detective.

Yep. Marijuana. About half a gram left in the bag.

I can imagine the dinner table at this kid's home. There's the napkin holder, the salt cellar, the pepper grinder and the marijuana shaker. There's little rotten Johnny..."Mom, please pass the salt." 'Why certainly, Little Rotten Johnny, and would you like the marijuana too?' Because this isn't just something you come up with, especially at the age of five. You aren't born naturally knowing that you can add a dash of unique flavor to meats, vegetables and savory sauces with a quick sprinkle of wholesome, salt-free Dade County ditch weed. And the age of five isn't exactly the great era of culinary experimentation. You know this kid's parents cook with marijuana on a routine basis.

Is this a way to cure the finicky-eater problem endemic to America's overworked parents? Could be...if little Mary won't eat her veggies, just sprinkle a little weed over them before serving and you'll never have this problem again. (On second thought, don't.)
