Meh. I'm kinda on the fence about it.
A lot of people seem to set up all of these things to tell other people not to kill themselves, but no one really seems to give a shit once you decide to stick around.

1. Interesting. I hadn't heard of this before, but I followed the link...
And I don't think it's true that no one gives a shit once you decide to stick around. In fact, I'd think it would be just the opposite. In my mind, once you've made that connection, I would think that those who have come to care about you would care more. :-)

3. I would like to believe you.
But now, of course, I must watch my words very carefully, lest a moderator decides that my ideas fall into the category of "pathological," and that none of you are qualified to speak to me, to help me, that only a professional could possibly help...

What if it's not a medical disorder? What if it's just part of the human condition? And how can someone say, with such certainty, that only a certain person can help me, when they haven't even asked me what would be helpful?

4. I'm not quite sure how to answer you...
I have known people who were suicidal and think that all of us feel hopeless at certain times in our lives, and that is a part of the human condition. However, the thing to bear in mind is that even though it is normal, this too shall pass. The hopeless feelings of today, brought on by a series of events, a sudden catastrophe or the normal ebb and flow of bodily chemicals, which we, as humans, experience, are transitory, if only we can ride them out.

Some of us do require professional help, some are helped by medications, and there are new discoveries and breakthroughs everyday. My point is that hopelessness is not a permanent condition and there is help for every negative emotion under the sun, whether it passes naturally or you have to seek it out. I've been there, my friend, and I hate to imagine what would have happened if I'd just given up in my darkest hour.

Only you know what would be helpful for you, but I urge you not to give in to the negative or oppressive feelings and look at the larger picture. All of us experience the darkness for periods in our lives, but if we are patient, either wait it out or seek the help that we need, all of us can come out on the other side... I hope that this helps... Having friends helps, even if it's just the support of your friends here on DU...

2. Anything that helps people deal with depression I'm ok with.
We need as many different approaches to it as we can get.
