for severe iron deficiency anemia brought on by constant and endless menstruation (that's a whole different topic).
Anyway, I'm not seeking sympathy or vibes, but I wanted to know if anyone else had been severely anemic and if transfusions helped in any way.
The doctor is amazed that I am able to function (more or less) and go to work everyday without being a zombie (though I feel partly zombified).

1. I had packed cells once |
|
it helped my anemia. Between that and low dose iron tabs, I didn't have to repeat it. Hang in there!
BTW, I had severe bleeding when I had periods and had 2 or more a month. Bleh. I feel for you. Big vibes!

2. I'm severely anemic, too. |
|
The iron supplements are helping me a lot though. Most of my symptoms are gone and my blood count was up last month.
I really don't want to have to have a transfusion. How did it go for you?

4. A transfusion will definitely help... |
|
But what you really need, and I hope your doctor is working on, is a CURE.
My best vibes to you!

7. I have iron deficient anemia. I get iron infusions periodically |
|
I take high doses of prescription iron as well. I do not absorb oral iron very well at all.
I wonder if he could give you infusions once in a while?

My mom who was going through chemo and so anemic she couldn't stand up, felt like a new person when she had hers.
Sorry you're having to go through this and hope you find a more permanent solution to your problem.
Good luck and hope you feel better.

9. I was severely an anemic fifty pounds underweight zombie |
|
Two units of blood brought me back from the dead overnight, it was that dramatic. That, and two IV drips kept me alive until surgery fixed the mess. I had a blast gaining sixty pounds until my body was sated.
I had another two units during surgery. Thank you blood donors.

do find out why you are having recurring menstruation. Could be endometriosis or fibroid tumors.
