3. Thats pretty good. We sometimes do that during the week
On Sundays, I like to do more traditional meals. For years growing up, Sundays meant a pot roast slow cooked in the oven while we were at church. It always came with carrots, potatoes and cream style corn. Mom would cook it on a low setting for 3/4 hours. We would get up for church and it would already be in the oven and then when we got home from church usually 12:30 or so, it would be ready. Rarely did we have anything different on Sundays.

I still like a good roast, but I like variety and not the same thing every week.

4. Leftovers tonight
chicken marengo.

It's even better as a leftover, when the chicken absorbs the juices/flavor.

Now I'm hungry.

6. It varies, but here's one that's close
http://www.foodista.com/recipe/QGQ6VKV6/chicken-marengo

The only addition in ours is a bunch of pitted black olives added to the pot.

And, double the amounts of wine and brandy. It's a long process, and the chef needs to repeatedly taste the wine and brandy to ensure freshness.

:hi:

13. An interesting historical context for the meal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Marengo

Look in the "miscellany" section of the article for a mention of the meal, supposedly dating from 1800.

8. Doing one of our faves today, too.
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 06:25 PM by hippywife
Fried chicken, potatoes and turnips mashed together, coleslaw, homemade biscuits, and homemade banana pudding with fresh whipped cream. :9

Enjoy your dinner, but try not over do it now that you're doing better. :hi:

12. I can only eat very small amounts of things still
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 07:45 PM by greenbriar
I eat small portions, my entire meal is about the size of my hand. I still have to drink ensure at least once a day. I hate the stuff, but I have gained to 105 lbs now and my doctor is happy.
