1. Completely classless move by Childress and Favre, running up the score.
I hope New Orleans humiliates them.

2. And the Saints did what to the Cardinals?
This is the NFL not Sunday School. You have to play the full 60.

18. The Saints didn't run up the score on the Cardinals
they secured a victory and then at the end of the game took at least four knees. Payton could have directed the offense to get another score but they didn't. I agree about the full 60. Running up the score on millionaires is not a big deal to me but that's not what the Saints did.

5. That was odd, but it didn't bother me.
I just figured they were trying to meet some personal goal somewhere, or some record I didn't know about. I remember a game ages ago where the Cowboys were playing a Reggie White team--might have been the Packers, and that might even be what Favre was upset about--where they were winning easily. Their kicker had scored five field goals, and one more was the record, so with just a couple of minutes to go they kicked another field goal to give the kicker the record. Reggie White went ballistic and started screaming at the sidelines, and all the stuff he usually did. Later, when they explained it was just because of the record, he calmed down.

I didn't worry about it. We were beaten.

32. It's the defenses job to stop them. Not the offenses to stop themselves.
If people make millions to play professional football they should be able to stop a team. They ran their offense and the Cowboys couldnt stop them. It's also about momentum, you want to be firing on all cylinders and dominating going into the next game not taking a knee with two minutes left. had their only been 30-45 sec left I would understand taking a knee but there were two minutes left. Dallas' D is good and should have been able to stop or slow them down, but they couldnt. Offense scores points, defenses try to stop them.

Go Vikes

and

Roll Tide.

4. Yeah, they kicked our Cowboy butts!
I knew the Cowboys were overrated, but that was terrible. :)

The three teams that looked strongest during the season all tanked at the end, but dominated this weekend. The Saints, the Colts, and the Vikings.

7. That's a good observation.
All 3 had long winning streaks this year but tapered off as the regular season ended. I did think it would be much closer, but the Vikings defense played lights out.

10. Yeah, they played a perfect defensive game. The Cowboys have a weak offensive coordinator.
He's very predictable, even when he calls trick plays. He doesn't know how to call a complete game. Earlier, when they played San Diego, the Chargers's defense was laughing at how predictable his plays were. The Cowboys have as much talent as any team, and Garrett has some clever tricks sometimes, but he doesn't know how to misdirect, and how to call a complete game. He's better at the chess part of coaching than the poker part.

Still, it wasn't like the Cowboys had time to do anything clever, anyway. Romo was running for his life. They were getting to him even before he could hand the ball off sometimes.

14. Yeah, they were really the better team. The Cowboys shut Favre and Peterson down
for most of the game, but their defense kept getting them the ball in scoring position, and eventually even their offense kicked in.

And special teams weren't close. The Vikings just killed us there.

33. They did shut Peterson down but not Farve. He had a career high in TD's.
But you are right the Cowboy's (Romo) shot themselves in the foot with all the turnovers. Had they turned it over only twice instead of four or five times the game would have been much closer. Also losing Flozell Adams in the first half gave the Vikes D a huge advantage. Adams was the only one that could slow down Jarred Allen.

36. Favre's numbers were a bit padded there. The one they really didn't shut down was Rice
who is as good as any receiver in the NFL right now.

Not saying Favre didn't have a good game, but he wasn't moving the ball much, is all I meant. He was only 15 of 24, which is the same completion percentage as Romo, and far fewer passes. They were about equal on first downs. The Cowboys defense was shutting them down on most plays, but Favre got a few great scrambles and hit Rice who caught the ball even when he wasn't open. I mean, did you see Rice's last TD? He caught the ball even though the defender's hand was on his arm and the ball! Dude was amazing. His first TD Favre threw into double coverage--exactly the stuff everyone complains about Favre doing, and Rice came away with it. They didn't get any easy passes or completions.

Still, Favre threw three TDs. There has to be an asterisk on that last one, since the Cowboys let them have it, thinking he was just going to run the clock down some more. I'm a Favre fan, and I think Brookings and Phillips were silly complaining about it, and it didn't bother me in the least, but that was still the football equivalent of a base not counted as stolen because of defensive indifference. I just assumed Favre had something in his contract that that pass fulfilled. Kind of reminded me of him deliberately taking a sack to give Michael Strahan the record. :)

Any way it went, that was a defensive battle until the fourth quarter. The score was 17 - 3 at the half, and at the start of the fourth. After that, the Vikings offense started moving the ball. Early on, the Cowboys were moving it better, but they couldn't get in the endzone, and their stinking kicker just, well, stunk.

I hated to see my Boys get beaten, I'm happy to see Favre proving he isn't too old, and that he really is one of the top QBs of all time, especially after the crap he took earlier over his "waffling" over retirement. The media created that hype, and Favre just let his throwing arm silence his critics. Brookings and Phillips could learn a thing from that. :)

Sorry to go on. I'm still pumped. :)

37. I disagree about the first TD pass
Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 02:05 PM by JonLP24
First it wasn't in double coverage. It was a Cover 2 where the CB plays the first 5 to 10 yards of the route and the safety deep. It was just Rice and the Safety by the time the ball was there.

Favre threw a perfect pass with a defender closing in on him of course Rice made a very nice catch but the throw was great especially considering he hung there and made it happen.

Sidney Rice is up there, he beat Baltimore. With the Vikings trailing late in the game Favre dialed up a 60 or 70 yard bomb that Rice went up and got it with a defender all over him. That play put them in FG range so they can retake the lead.

39. Yeah, I meant his second TD, got them confused, but I was wrong on that one, too..
Just watched the replays, and he wasn't doubled on either of them. For some reason I thought he was on the first, but he wasn't.

The first one was impressive, but he was helped by the Cowboys's defender not even turning around for the ball. Watch the Cowboy when Rice catches the ball--he starts looking around like he's trying to figure out where the ball came from. :)
