A 24-year-old Plymouth man who drunkenly woke up six sleeping children to beat them has been sentenced to 60 days in jail after accepting a plea deal that eliminated six counts of child abuse.
Jerry J. Lundy, of 416 E. Clifford St., was sentenced Tuesday by Judge L. Edward Stengel to the jail term and three years probation, according to court records released Friday. Under the plea agreement, three felony child abuse counts were dismissed, two were converted to felony substantial battery and one became misdemeanor battery.
Lundy was also convicted of misdemeanor intentionally mistreating animals for repeatedly kicking the children’s chocolate Labrador, which tried to protect them.
As part of the plea deal, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Bork had recommended a six-month jail term.
Bork said Lundy is an Iraq War veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. She said she believes that played a role in the sentence that was handed down but declined further comment.
