he was the headliner at a casino show with Felix Cavaliere, The Turtles ( Flo and Eddie with backing musicians)...We went to see Cavaliere ( my friend and I were, and are, total Rascals fans), but all three were excellent ( Howard Kaylan still has that same beautiful voice he had all those years ago). We weren't expecting much out of Chubby Checker, but he really is ( or still was that recently) a total pro entertainer. Killer band, still sang well, and put on a great show; didn't just go through the motions...

I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 at the time, 1961, I think, and I was loving the attention.

So you could say that Chubby Checkers made me strive for the lime light...
