1. I voted powder but
I buy a laundry soap made from goats milk from one of our coop producers. It's awesome and last forever because it only takes a little bit.

:hi:

3. cool!
what are the ingredients, do you know?

I'm a powder advocate too - why pay for shipping water? I do object to the fillers in most commercial stuff, though (a few ounces worth of detergent but 5 or 6 to puff it up so you use a whole cup - why?) - about ready to try homemade, but a bit lazy.

Of course my dream is a Staber washer!

4. All coop products are required to have
their ingredients listed. I buy a huge bucket of it which lasts me for a year.

From the website:

The one thing I love about this laundry powder is that it only takes 1/8 cup per regular load of laundry. Our laundry powder is completely all natural, no artificial coloring or fragrance. Our laundry powder if finely milled to dissolve quickly. Goats Milk is high in protein and helps with stains while it naturally softens. This formula is great for skin sensitive people and babies. Also may be used as an all-purpose cleaner we clean everything from sinks to our trucks. We also wash our goats with this blend to take off the buck smell. We ground our hand made herbal goat milk soaps blended with Sodium Borate, Sodium Carbonate, Soda Ash, Blended Oils, Blended Grains, Blended Herbs, Blended Essential oils. packaged in a resealable Kraft bag w/wooden scoop. If you have enough scoops let me know and I will discard the scoop and add a little extra powder.

5. Here's a cool site for making your own:
http://planetgreen.discovery.com/home-garden/make-your-own-laundry-soap.html

I need to look around for the ingredients as my local Kroger doesn't have washing soda.

I'm curious, too, about "soapnuts" (Sapindus) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapindus

15. I have a septic tank, too,
but I'm sure what I'm using won't do it any harm. The people who make it use it themselves, and they are way more rural in location than we are.

2. Liquid..
Only because the powder often doesn't dissolve all the way in a cold water wash.

9. When I was using regular laundry soaps
I was having that problem, too, so I switched to liquid and found I had the same issue. Little dots of white on some of the clothes. I then found if I put a few less items in each load, the problem went away. :hi:
