Inconsiderate apartment dwellers - Battle of the Laundry
Edited on Sun Jan-24-10 04:28 PM by Darth_Kitten
1) don't touch somebody else's things. Not nice. Especially when you have done two loads beforehand that haven't been tended to. (One dry load sitting in the dryer, and another waiting to be dried)

I move clothes that were sitting in the washer to the basket, as I don't have all day to wait. (People shouldn't be letting stuff sit forever)

My load is barely done, when somebody has removed my stuff, and started another washing load. They've put their second load in the dryer.

I call landlord. I leave not so polite note with his approval on machine.

Well, my load is waiting to be dried. But Ms. Thang is loading the dryer with her third load (she states she has been doing laundry all morning). I said I've been waiting for that, you don't have the right to hog the machines. Whatever.
Yeah, whatever, there are other people in the building, hon.

So I move her load out, and dry my clothes with her money. I of course leave another note to her to learn some consideration and enough money to do her drying after me.

Well, that's my one day off this week. :)

Don't know who this new person is, but it's generally a quiet building and nobody bothers anybody else.

It was her flip, inconsiderate attitude that got to me. I need clothes to wear today, and they were all wet. :(

4. My apartment's laundry is ridiculously expensive.
It's like $1.85 per load in each machine.

So I'd need $3.70 just to do one load of laundry.

What's worse is that you can't just use quarters or cash - you have to use a special laundry card they give you at the office, and you have to put at least $20 on it from a debit or credit card.

I just do my laundry at my friend's house and buy him beer from time to time. It's much cheaper. And I don't have to deal with inconsiderate people in my apartment complex. I run into them enough already.

Moral of the story - when my lease is up, I'm getting a house.

11. Not me. Most apartments I've lived in have a separate laundry facility
no matter how many bedrooms the apartment has.

Then again, I tend to look for apartments on the cheap.

Apartment living sucks even without the laundry issue.

When my lease is up, I hope never to live in one ever again.

5. Note to self
Continue policy of moving heaven and earth to make sure I always live somewhere with my own washer and dryer if it is at all possible.

7. This is why I take mine to the laundrymat.
I share one small washing machine with three of my neighbors. It's just not worth the aggravation to even try to make that work, so once a week or so I shove the whole mess in the car and go to the laundrymat. I usually just do my homework or read while I'm there, or they have wifi if I want to do that, so I get two uninterrupted hours sans kid and a chore gets done at the same time. Then I drag it all back home, put a movie in to watch while I fold, make the kid put it all away if he's home (he only has a few chores, but this is one of them) and laundry's done for the week.

That said, I can't wait to move to a house with a proper laundry room.

8. Well, if you're evil and patient...
There are all kinds of legal ways to make Ms. Thang's life as miserable as her rudeness has made yours. You just have to be creative. Don't be passive. Be sneaky.

9. I was a lucky one, the washers/dryers were just outside my apartment door
I could hear when they turned on and off. I also had the luxury of being able to do the laundry during the weekday mid mornings, so I didn't have to jockey for machine time with the 9 to 5 crowd.

10. Laundry in at 6:30PM power out for 12 hours - can I dry my clothes and leave them in
while at work and hope someone takes them out if they need it. Or do I take my wet clothes out and let them sit all day until I'm done with work and might be able to get in an open drier.

Apt living is tough with washers and driers

13. My last apt had no laundry room; had to go to a laundromat
Which is not all bad; I got it all done at once. I did it so long I knew precisely how long it took things to dry, so everything was folded by the time the last dryer stopped.

Now I have my own washer and dryer, and I can do laundry any time and in my pajamas.
