I had a period of time where I was really suffering with reflux. If I made the mistake of eating any kind of tomato product I was absolutely miserable.
I dunno the root cause of your reflux (if it is a structural issue, obviously behavioral changes will not have any impact) but I do want to point you to some information that may help you find some relief without having to resort to the acid controller drugs which can cause some issues if used over a long term.
For a good overview and some suggestions about how to deal with reflux:
http://www.natural-cure-remedy.com/acid-reflux.htmlWhen I was first dealing with the entire GERD thing, I went to my Doc who immediately put me on Prilosec. I took it as directed and it did help with the pain. I was able to sleep at night and I was able to eat again. A few months went by, and when I went back to the doc for something else I asked him about when I should stop with the Prilosec. His response was something along the lines of "never" (but not quite that bleak...) The upshot was he really considered this to be a chronic condition.
As a result, I started doing some reading and research. I found the following article and it helped me a great deal. You can't expect it to turn around quickly, but if you follow this guy's advice you CAN get to a point where you can eat like a normal person and not have to worry about hurting all night or feeling like your backbone is gonna get scorched by all the acid. What follows is a link to an article that I'm convinced has helped me more than anything else:
