Places NOT to stay while traveling.

:scared:

“Had the ambience of fresh vomit.....”
Met hookers in the hallways. Rooms had no air conditioning, so we had to open windows (hah---best described as "holes in walls"). Windows were 4" glass slats with NO screens, and anyone passing by could reach through the glass, part the drapes, and peek in! Carpets were crusty with the texture of vomit, doors barely closed and locks were puny at best. The only thing that separated us from adjoining room was small latch 3/4 the way up the door, available in any 10 cent store. Mattresses were splitting wide open and had the consistency of lumpy, wet straw.

If you are filming a horror flick or a slasher movie, this is the place for you. If you are a NORMAL person, avoid it like the plague!

Secure?

Would you sit here???

Pray for no fire.....

This is all that separated us from neighbors

And even more quality hotels can be found at the link!

1. Worst place I EVER saw was in Memphis.
The Admiral Benbow Inn. It was a place to stay after we'd been on the road all day. Cheap, and seedy as hell--lots of creepy looking people hanging around both in the building and out side it. Jim says, "Aw hell-can't be THAT bad--it is only for one night..."

Peeled the sheets back and they were covered in what looked like large clumps of pubic hair.

We turned the key back in and requested a refund.

(Did I mention that Jim is now an "ex" and his idea of "vacation" often involved places where you have to shake your shoes in the morning to be sure and get the scorpions out?)

I was looking it up to post this and found where somebody posted that it has been torn down. I also found an article about the place:

You KNOW it is bad when the locals talk about it.

2. Sounds like a place where I stayed in Anchorage.
The Spenard Motor Hotel. As one of my traveling companions put it, almost every one of the Ten Commandments was being broken around us while we were there. No murders that we were aware of. We slept in our sleeping bags, rather than trust the linens. Glad it was only for a night.

3. My wife and I once stayed at this wonderful place in decaying Ohio.
It was a large early "fifties modern" motel, a place that was probably quite pricey when Ohio was still an industrial giant.

But mostly it was now empty and a bunch of friendly looking people were in the lobby folding laundry, watching television, and just hanging out chatting. We couldn't tell who worked there until one woman put aside her personal laundry and checked us in.

We went to the room and it was sort of dusty and the window was stuck shut, so we went back to the lobby and said we'd like another room. The manager apologized and handed us a huge handful of keys and asked us to find a room we liked, so we did.

It was totally awesome, like spending the night in some kind of museum.
