I think Shari had a stroke last night -
Around 11 last night, she suddenly developed ataxia and looks stiff, couldn't seem to coordinate her eyes, and is unusually weak and lethargic - and unhappy. She's also developed difficulty breathing and bloody diarrhea that she can't control. She hates having accidents in the house, and it's obvious this is making it worse for her. Last night, she apparently crawled under our bed, which made it difficult to get to her when I got up;we've got her resting on body-pillow in sight of me (her mommie) which is apparently what she wants.

Yes, we're taking her to the vet as soon as we can get the kidlet off to school. (Kidlet never wants to be part of the end of life issues with any of our fur-babies, it's too upsetting for her.)

At the grand old doggie life of an up to now happy 14 and a half, I'm not sure there's much that can be done for her that won't take long-term full-time nursing, which is not something that is available in the chaos around here.
Whatever happens, it's going to be dictated as to what she wants. And right now, her body language is telling me that she's uncomfortable and wants to sleep.

Haele

1. So very sorry to hear this.
We lost our sweet Hannah very suddenly on Tuesday. It hasn't been a good week:

I know exactly where you are right now. Peace to you and your sweet Shari.

8. Update -
We're going to be leaving her there until Sunday (this is a 24 hour hospital) so they can get her more stable and find out what her status actually is.
She's symptomatic of a mild stroke, but the vet also found there was something off about her abdomen and is going to have a full blood panel and xrays done to check that out. Since she's not eating, nor showed interest in eating since Wednesday, and her bowel movements are severely out of whack,` they'd prefer to keep her monitored and on an IV until they know what's going on- the stroke might have been caused by something internal, or she might have gotten into something poisonous in the backyard.
If one of the neighbors was using rat poison and a dying rat made it into our backyard Tuesday or Wednesday night...

Poor baby.

Haele
