The DU Body Art thread
alternative title: "The shortbus got his eyelid pierced today and wishes to take this opportunity to show it off so this is really just a vanity thread."

But I'm curious to see how my fellow DUers have decorated themselves, too. Tattoos, piercings, whatever you've got. If you've got pics of 'em, let's see 'em! Unless they're in a place best not photographed for display where minors might catch view.

And since this is really just a vanity thread in disguise, here's mine:

and my favorite tattoo:

Thanks so much for the indulgence!

1. I don't have pics of my tattoos but here goes...
No piercings (I've always thought they were too temporary, but to each their own).

As for tattoos I have a tribal sun on my right shoulder.

I have the Japanese character for strength on my right calf, with a circle around it.

I have the Crass (anarchist punk band) logo on my back shoulder surrounded by some slight tribal work.

And my left arm/shoulder is a large design of intertwined serpants inspired by the logo of the band Neurosis.

The first two I"m afraid are too small so as soon as summer's over and I won't expose them to the sun I"m going to get more work done around both of them.

2. Oh, jeez, I thought you said pierced eyeLID!
Thankfully, you meant pierced eyebrow, not lid! Piercing eyelids is a bit hardcore for me.

I have five tattoos. Here's four of them:

http://geni.freehosting.net/alltattoos.htm

I don't have a picture of #5. My husband and I got matching Celtic bands on our left wrists for our 4th anniversary.

I'm planning on going to the Seattle Tattoo Convention on Friday, and will hopefully get #6 there.

6. Tats
I've got a Phoenix/Firebird on my left upper arm.

There's nothing sleazy or offensive about it. I'd
happily post a pic, if I could afford a scanner.

*FUN TATTOO FACT*

Eleanor Roosevelt had a tattoo. It was a rose.

16. None, nada zilch
Nowdays we without ink and holes are the unique ones.

It seems about 90% of the folks out there have marked their bodies in one way or another. I'm proud to be a blank.

Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 10:53 PM by VelmaD
I have 2 tattoos. The first I got for my birthday last year. It's a crescent moon and shooting star. (It's my favorite scene from Fantasia for those who get it.)

This past January I got another tat and my first body piercing. The tat is a spiral sun on my right hip in the back. Yup, I spent hours letting a complete stranger man-handle my backside.

That same night I got my right nipple pierced but I figure I wanta stay on the moderators' good side so I'm not gonna post a pic. :-)

Lastly I got my belly button pierced as a gift to myself for losing weight back in March. Here it is with my favorite little stars.

I also have 3 holes in my right ear and 1 in my left but those hardly count anymore. :-)

Anyway, that's the count so far. I'm in the planning stage on a third tattoo and maybe a piercing somewhere "personal". ;-)

getting a tattoo. I thought several times about getting, as an existential protest, a UPC symbol tattooed on my arm. The numeric code at the bottom would be my birth numbers, including time of day. Never went through with it, but it would've been fun to this day to be able to go into a store, pull up my sleeve and say to the salesperson: "Scan me, willya?

BTW, nice body art, Velma. Thanks for sharing. :-)

20. you're welcome
And my kindergarten teacher said I had trouble sharing. What did she know? ;-)

I've seen some pics of people who did the bar code thing and I think they look pretty cool. Plus I like the in-your-face kind of message they send.

19. For now
I just have one tattoo, on the upper right arm, of a shamrock in the Irish tricolor with a banner reading IRELAND around the bottom.

Fun Fact: Whe I had it done, they didn't bother with white ink for that part of the tricolor, my arm was too white for it to be worth the effort.

As soon as I get a decent paying job again I intend to get a Celtic cross on the other arm. I like the UPC idea too....
