Someone's in the kitchen with scallops
What a sale! Scallops $2.98/lb. Prime fresh strawberries $1.50/lb.

Going down to the sea in ships -

Scallops sauteed in Corleone olive oil, onions, celery, minced garlic, Minnesota wild rice, bean sprouts, sliced toasted almonds.

Sale away...inspired by Mrs. Uly's prime rib birthday feast.

5. Rinse them really well with cold water
and sautee in olive oil or butter on high heat, no more than 5 minutes for the little guys, a little soy sauce if desired. You can also bread them and broil. The big ones - sea scallops? - are better but very expensive. The bushCorp budget relegates me to little frozen scallops, but growing up in Boston I was often treated to fresh biggies...oh, the memories.

13. Oh, yeah, very easy to cook
I wouldn't cook them for five minutes, though, especially the smaller sea scallops. Maybe two minutes.

I cook scallops over somewhat high heat, in butter, and just before being done will toos some salt over them and throw in some julienned yellow and green zuchini (or other very thinly sliced in-season vegetable), some garlic, and some lemon zest and squeeze in maybe half a lemon or so (depending on the number of scallops).

They can be served as is that way, or even poured over a salad (without any salad dressing, since the butter will serve as a magnificent dressing). Yummy!!

Once, striving for creativity and trying to use up some leftover stuff and wanting to impress some friends, I did this with the scallops, but also sauteed some shrimp first in the butter (add the shrimp about 30 seconds before the scallops). I heated up some vicchysoise I had leftover, poured a small amount into small plates as a sauce, and then served the scallops and shrimps and veggie mix into that sauce in a rather artful presentation, if I do say so myself. It was quite a hit!

6. It's fast, I tell you. Stop two minutes before you think they're done.
Yum, white wine, butta, garlic, whatever.

Tossed with pasta, okeydoke. Just dipped in lemon butter, even better.

Sounds like those poor little bivalves don't stand a chance.

11. sad
it's amazing the taste difference between the incredible sea scallops, and the rather poor, but still scallopy, bay scallops.

But as you say, still a nice treat. I mean, it's like debating about whether three orgasms is better than one. Yes it is, but one is still heavenly, so who's to complain?

Even for sea scallops, 2.98 is a hella good price.

16. It was very good!
Though it was extended, due to bad weather and problems at O'Hare, by 0.00893 weeks.

Had a wondeful time, though owing to the nature of the trip, details of which I cannot mention, it was rather stressful, it ended with two excellent resolutions. And I'd only hoped for one! So it was great.

Plus I got to eat at Shakey's again and enjoy some mojos.

15. Some folks are fine with fish, and with
crustaceans like lobster and shrimp and crawdads. My Sainted Mother, likes those things (the lobster and such) but is made so ill by mussels, clams, oysters, scallops. The rule is no bivalves for her.

Maybe you'll be O.K. Just those particular things make My Sainted Mother feel unwell.

My mouth waters just thinking about all of these good little fishy things. I live where there is no ocean.

But, we do have trout and catfish. Now I feel better. I'm gonna go catch me some. Tomorrow.
