OK, so I stopped by the Goodwill store tonight and Wow! It's Spring! the bikes are back!
1/2 an hour and $13 buck later i'm stuffing 2 "new" corpses into the back of the truck...
A 60's vintage Schwinn "Collegiate" with Chicago-made gaspipe frame and 27" steel wheels with QR hubs (?) Well, it has a nice set of old-school rat-trap pedals with toeclips, a "Schwinn Approved" bottle gennie set (made by Union) and a classic Pletscher rear rack. Can you say "Parts Bike"?
The other is an ancient Sears "Made in Austria" (Steyr-Puch?) girl's 3-speed with lugged frame and steel cottered crankset. Maybe mid-60's vintage. What I got planned for this one is converting my Huffy "middleweight" over to 3-speed, because that 66-inch coaster brake is not fun going up hill back home from the Subway. swap wheels and brakes and turn the Steyr-Puch into a single-speed.
Doesn't take a lot to keep me amused, does it?
Come, I-gor!
