Poem: Amending the Constitution

amending the constitution

my favorite amendment to the constitution
is one that hasn't happened yet--
it gives trees and bears and salmon the vote,
as a way of repaying our debt.

congress will be wildflowers, grasses and squirrels,
rivers and scenic wonders,
not to mention bats and fireflies and fish,
and mountains where the lightning thunders.

the president they choose to elect
will be chosen by acclamation--
how many howls (just imagine the vowels!)
will it take to bring up a new nation?

we might see an end (in my lifetime, at least!)
to the species loss and the pollution,
the hemorrhaging of hope, and the greenhouse effect--
by thus amending the constitution.

3. We are a parasite, but not a symbiote

Which is to say, we're too stupid to keep our host alive so that we might live, but instead suck all the life from it we can, killing it, and of course in the process kill ourselves by destroying our supply of energy.

At least,the republican christian right wing part of us does. And more beyond that, in the third world and other areas, but I'm happy to give most of the blame to the assholes in the republican party.

They want to impose

Ashcroft and Bush

And lick my slimy

Or get in the craw
Of those who love freedom
Apple pie and their ma
