FEBRUARY RECORD | Storm turns lakefront into a winter wonderland

February 11, 2010

BY STEFANO ESPOSITO Staff Reporter

Shifting snow dunes and rolling waves heaving with globs of ice as big as boulders: That was the lakescape that attracted dozens of onlookers in Rogers Park on Wednesday, after a one-day snowfall that set a record for any February day in Chicago, with 12.6 inches at O'Hare Airport.

The last time Chicago had this much snow: Jan. 2, 1999, when 18.6 inches fell here.

Among those drawn to the winter beach scene was Luiz Augusto Ramalho, visiting from Brazil. At 38, he saw snow for the first time.

"I thought it would feel colder," said Ramalho, a cinematographer from Rio de Janeiro. "I feel like a kid. I even ate some snow -- just to taste it. It tasted like ice. It's good for making margaritas."

5. NNOOOOO
pour some baileys or amarula on it, good margaritas should be on the rocks not slushy, watered down snow cones!

8. Mmmm amarula
When I lived in Wales, my friends made up a drink with amarula and amaretto called the "Marzipan Hefflelump"

6. You only make margaritas when you have lousy tequila
good tequila should be consumed without additives

7. It makes good ice cream, too.
Just don't use the yellow snow.
