Places to visit in Miami?

I am going to be in Miami for a short working vacation and was wondering what spots I should be sure to hit. Any thoughts?

6. I Was There 25 Years Ago

The bars change but the Palm Trees don't.

If you smoke, forget about indoor bars...I just spent a week with friends in Florida.

Just wander about the first night or two and discover a Bar you're comfortable with people you like....

I also believe a few DU'ers are and/or were located around the Kennedy Space Center until my notebook expired the last words of M$ a few months ago; new notebook and new software, ye scurvy dog....

2. It's hokey, and 1950's but I cannot visit Miami without going there

I was about 5 when I first went there, and have always gone back..

and The glass bottom boats at Silver Springs were always a fave too..

8. Both Coconut Grove (no "A" in it) and Key Biscayne are short drives away

The Miami Seaquarium is on Key Biscayne, a short hop south from South Beach.

If you go out to the Key, on your way back turn left at South Miami Avenue and follow down a short ways to Vizcaya. A must see.

After you've seen Vizcaya, head down to Coconut Grove ("The Grove") by turning left again onto South Miami Avenue which becomes Bayshore Drive. That will take you straight into the heart of The Grove.

7. Coral Castle in Homestead

South of Miami. Coral objects (some weighing several tons) made over 50 years ago and no one knows how.

11. depends what kind of stuff you like to do....

....miami is loaded with things to do and see.

if you like nature, don't miss everglades national park. head straight to the national park, forget the airboat rides as they are noisy and destructive and they scare the wildlife away. the airboats arent allowed in everglades national park, so if you go there you are guaranteed to see more wildlife than you've probably ever seen. i recommend "shark valley" which is the north entrance to the national park and to get there just take tamiami trail (sw 8th street) straight west about 19 miles from krome avenue (the edge of miami).

the south entrance to the park in homestead opens up to a road that takes you to a place called flamingo, right at the edge of florida bay. the wildlife down there is slightly different than what you see in the north end of the park where it's all fresh water. in the salt and brackish tributaries in and around flamingo you'll have a chance to see some american crocodiles, an endangered species. in the north end of the park you won't see any crocs but you'll see more gators than you can imagine.
