Unsung heroes in history

Gonna have another one. As I said in the other thread, Alexander Dubcek who was president of Czechoslovakia in 1968, he tried to in his words put a human face on communism, and Moscow ruthlessly opressed the Czechoslovaks. A cool thing about him was that he was Slovak not Czech like me :), the only Slovak pres of Czechoslovakia, and as a boy he lived here in the US. So who are your unsung history heroes.

7. Franklin Kameny.

Franklin Kameny was an astronomer in the 1950's...who was fired for being gay.

For decades, Franklin Kameny has championed the cause of gay rights...tirelessly working hard to end discrimination of gay and lesbian people. He is a hero of mine...an unsung hero.

8. Does Michael Collins count? Or is he too well known?

13. Michael Collins definitely counts...

His place in Irish history was for years denigrated,to a great degree by Eamon de Valera,who fought attempts to honor Collins during his long(De Valera's)life and long career in Irish politics. Considering his massive(one might say "matchless") contribution to Irish history,he is definitely "unsung".

9. Nellie Bly. And Buck Weaver.

Nellie was the Sydney Bristow of her era, and Buck Weaver was a decent ballplayer who got unfairly maligned with his cheating Black Sox teammates. Maybe he's more of a tragic figure than a hero, I guess. The same with Tucker, the automaker.

In my opinion...
