By JACQUES STEINBERG
The latest in a growing list of a videos paying homage to particular colleges comes from a troupe of students at Middlebury in Vermont. But unlike “That’s Why I Chose Yale” — which originated in the Yale admissions office, and appeared to take some cues from “High School Musical” — “Midd Kid” is a rap that is proudly unauthorized by the college. That is not least because of some risque inferences and language that is more Jay-Z than Jay Leno, although the lyrics are mostly tame. (A sample: “I’m a Midd Kid/I roll my jeans up high/With my Teva strap tight and my flannel so fly.”
“Midd Kid” was filmed on and around Middlebury’s bucolic campus, including at the college’s main library, and in dorm rooms at Atwater Suites and Jewett House.
After someone posted a link to the video earlier this week on The Choice, I reached out to Aaron Becker, who is listed in the credits as a co-producer. He turns out to be a Middlebury senior from Evanston, Ill., whose major is international politics and economics.
A few years ago, he told me, he and several other Middlebury students formed a film and video production company, Windward Entertainment. Separately, another student, Sam Robinson, began circulating an audio version of “Midd Kid” — he wrote the music, and co-wrote the lyrics — through a group that calls itself the Allen Jokers, named for a freshman dorm. The song quickly became an underground campus favorite. ....

It’s embarrassing that you are giving this coverage. It’s just a handful of self-glorifying kids rapping about getting drunk. Did you notice the video features, among other proud moments, a threesome and a lax bro puking into a girl’s lap before you posted it? I hope the admissions office doesn’t mistake this as an example of their rich campus life.
