Dilemma: What to get at a pizza place if the sauce doesn't agree with me?
It's pizza night in the MG household, and lately the fam's been getting their pies from the pizza place up the street. However, their sauce gives me agita like nothing I've ever had in my life. I've been subsisting on canned soup and whole-wheat rolls every Friday for quite some time while the menfolk stuff their faces with pizza, but tonight I just want something from the pizza place too. But what? Accepting any and all suggestions! (They have the usual non-pizza stuff--subs etc.)

1. You can have them make the pizza with light or no sauce.
I do it all the time. Its better that way!

4. 'Tis a thought!
Would freak out the teens who man the place, too. When I was in college, I had a friend who didn't like cheese, so she and her roommate would order a cheese pizza, half with no cheese. The pizza place thought she was insane, but they always knew it was her!

5. Get one small sauce-less pizza to yourself.
With grilled chicken and onions and no sauce. Its damn good.

7. That does sound good!
I wonder if the place could handle that kind of a special request without getting all turned around. They're kind of...small-time!

8. Ah, see, now you're gettin' all hoity-toity

This place is down-and-dirty, small-town pizza (by that they mean traditional pepperoni and cheese)/subs/wings.

10. Do they have Margheritas on the menu?
Those shouldn't have sauce, although some places add it anyway.

12. Alas, no
It's just an old-fashioned, no-frills pizza-and-subs place. Honestly, I wouldn't set foot in it if it weren't for the MG men--my son especially LOVES their pizza and can't wait for Friday night-pizza night.

11. It's their sauce (Crushed tomatos)
A pasta sauce, even (oil or meat, simmered, sweetened) would be easier on the tummy. I'd bring 'em a can of white clam sauce, ask them to use it in place of their red sauce on a cheese, or cheese 'n mushroom pizza. Alfredo sauce and sausage would be pretty good too.
The thing is, if they are a typical small pizza joint, they use the crushed tomato sauce on their meatball subs and pasta too, so they'll offer no releif.
if it's a nice, garlicky clam sauce, the smell will likely send them after a can of their own!

13. Yep
I was toying with the idea of a meatball sub, but first I need to ask them if their meatballs are separate from the sauce. However, I suspect they're burbling around in a pot of sauce as I type.

15. Directions to another pizza place?
I think I'd go with a nice fat Philly Cheesesteak--onions, no peppers.

16. Series--this is the northeast, fer chrissakes!
We have 10 brazillion Italians and 10 brazillion corresponding pizza places, but the one in our village has to have sauce that disagrees with me... x(

I just ordered--went for a meatball sub with no sauce. The girl on the phone sounded QUITE puzzled by this and double checked my order--twice--because it was so weird. I strongly suspect that 99.9 percent of their orders are "large pepperoni pizza". Maybe some wings if they feel like getting all exotic.

17. I think the "no sauce" part threw her
Doesn't your normal meatball sub come slathered in marinara sauce?

20. It totally did

When I pulled the sub out of the bag, written in fat red marker was "NO (underlined) sauce!!"

If they did marinara sauce, I'd take it, but no--just thick, red acidic sauce that gets my gut. x(

18. My wife is from Philly and always her cheese streaks with no sauce-she puts
ketchup on them.

They always go through at least 2 takes to get the order right.

I'd recommend a large ham and cappicola with provalone and hot peppers on a hard roll.Get extra tomatoes, too.
