were fascinating.

I guess it is just so obvious that he can't be that nobody argues about it anymore.

EDIT:

Ridley Scott has one of the best eyes in the business, but he is tone deaf when it comes to the meaning of a work he has not authored.

8. Exactly, there is no debate.
He was not a replicant. That's all there is to it.

Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 06:48 PM by Mike 03
Especially, please tell me why it makes any sense to even make this film if he is a Replicant. What is the point?

It only makes sense to make BLADE RUNNER if Deckard is a human being who has feelings for Replicants.

No?

Even the author of the original screenplay says the same thing.

But I am willing to listen to any argument.

Ridley Scott is not a scholar, just a brilliant director.

12. What?
I said he wasn't a replicant.

The author of the book said the same thing... think that makes a different to that asshole? Fuck no. And for some dumbass reason people just believe whatever he says as if it's gospel.

11. anyone who releases multiple versions of a masterpiece just to toy with the ending is a hack
Ridley Scott released multiple versions of Blade Runner just to toy with the ending.

Therefore...

13. Well, I respectfully disagree, except you do have a point, not with BLADERUNNER but ALIEN
and the many editions of GLADIATOR.

There is a huge difference between an artist who is greedy and/or confused, and a Hack.

Hack directors are a dime a dozen. Ridley Scott doesn't even come close to qualifying as a hack director. That is ludicrous.

Why don't you start a new thread on hack directors and see what a hack director really is.

19. Just cause he fucked around with Blade Runner doesn't make him a hack.
Just a marketing ploy to go buy the half dozen versions of BR that are out there, which I admit pisses me off.

Duellists
Alien
Blade Runner
Thelma and Louise
Gladiator
Black Hawk Down
American Gangster

Hardly a hack.

Aside from Alien and Blade Runner, every film on your list is almost entirely conventional and could as readily have been directed by anyone who knows which end of a camera to point at the actors.

I notice that you omitted Hannibal, Legend, and Matchstick Men from your list. Deliberately?

I actually just watched the clip of that part on youtube. That line, along with the Vangelis score induces spine tingling. Just a wonderful moment in film.

31. I loved watching Blade Runner...
I would have liked to have seen it in the Theatre but had to settle for a lousey dvd on a small screen. The music of Vangelis was awesome. I had heard people complain they could never find the original soundtrack for the movie..but I am sure there must have been one?

Anyway.. It was great, and Harrison Ford...just wow!

32. Blade Runner was the film that, years ago, convinced me that letter boxing is the way to go
I remember Roger Ebert talking about the then just-released director's cut (the first one--not the fifteen "definitive" director's cuts that Ridley $cott has released since then). Ebert showed a number of scenes in both letter-boxed and pan-and-scan format, and he discussed the superiority of the former.

I was still in my teens at the time and hadn't really thought about it, but the difference was so profound and striking that I could help agreeing with Ebert.

More recently, with the advent of DVD and BluRay, I've wondered why people would even buy a "full screen" version of a modern film. Sure, some older films have a non-standard aspect ratio, but for any movie made in the past few decades there's no comparison.

So I guess I can thank Scott for opening my eyes in this regard.

33. There are several versions of the soundtrack.
However, even all these years later, after multiple releases of different versions, there is *still* not a complete soundtrack available.

34. I heard that about the soundtrack too.
Pretty much that it was just the highlights, and not the whole score. I liked the music Vangelis did for "Cosmos", as well. For some reason, "Chariots of Fire" didn't impact me as much.
