Am I The Only Person Who Thought "Diebold" Was Pronounced "Die Bold"... |
|
... on tonight's local news in DC, I learned it's actually pronounced "Dee Bold".
I kind of figured that it was a compound word similar to "DieHard"... meant to imply longevity and stamina and solid construction.
Silly me.

2. I'm Going To Start Calling DieHard Batteries "Dee Hard" Batteries... |

... maybe it will start a new fad.
Or maybe people will think I'm referring to vibrator batteries.
Oh well.

I thought the same thing. I thought it was related to the Skull and Bones club, something to do with their fascination with death and their need to act boldly. But now I understand the founder of the company was named Diebold.

7. Prouciation Is Regional |
|
We had a Diebold Manufacturing Facility in our area and I learned how to pronounce "it" at an early age.
Want to practice on "twarn't" or "ain't" if you're in the south or "Bhaaston Claam Choaawder" if you aren't further North?
Irreguardless, the message comes across if there is anything to communicate....

I never thought about it being pronounced die-bold until you mentioned it. It would make more sense than dee-bold.
