I need to rant about my right-wing, fundy home town. Again.
I sometimes feel like I'm barricaded inside my apartment, keeping all the fundies and wingnuts at bay with nothing more than a locked door. It gets crazy-lonely inside. And I'm sort of stuck here because I can't afford to move. The family are all wingnuts. Most of them are fundy wingnuts. My brother is an Ayn Rand wingnut. The county is full of the "god, guns and guts" sort of people: people I really don't care to associate with. (I ended a sentence with a preposition. Sue me.)

Today, I ventured out because I had to go to the doctor for a diabetes checkup and ended up in the same elevator as a woman with Hannity's book tucked under her arm. I literally groaned and ended up burying my face in my hand so I wouldn't have to look at it. It made me sick to my stomach.

I should grow a thicker skin, but the way I feel most of the time is that I don't have ANY SKIN AT ALL! WTF is wrong with me?

***smashes head on keyboard***

I should get a Rottweiler, name him Mike Malloy and take him everywhere with me.

1. I suggest you move
to San Fran or NYC. I guarantee instant happiness.

2. Conservatives are everywhere
I, too, live in a rather conservative area, but I don't let it get me down. There are liberals here, too, although we are outnumbered. I think the first thing is to be proud of who you are. I've read a some of your posts so I know you come from a conservative background and are a convert to the light side of the force. Going through the kind of conflict that occurs with this change can be traumatic and make you ultra-sensitive to your former cohorts. The reason I know this is because I'm a convert, too.
