cancelling a MySpace account is like pulling teeth.
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 11:11 PM by Terra Alta
I've had a MySpace account since 2006. It's gone pretty much unused since I discovered Facebook in May of last year. The thread about which companies you are boycotted reminded me of my boycott of NewsCorp, and since MySpace is owned by NewsCrap I thought I might as well get rid of my account. Had no clue I was in for an interrogation...

First, it took me forever to find the link to delete my account(buried somewhere in the "Account Info" section). So, I click on it. It then asks me WHY I want to delete my account. Since "because you are an annoying teenybopper website run by greedy Repukes" wasn't an option, I check "I am bored with MySpace". (Which technically is true, since finding Facebook I wonder why I ever created a MySpace account to begin with). They then tell me how I can make MySpace work better for me. All I want to do is delete my damn account so I click "no thanks". I am then informed they've sent me an e-mail with a link I have to click to cancel my account. I check me e-mail, click the link and the same damn box pops up telling me how I can make MySpace work better for me(don't they get it already?? I don't WANT their crappy site to work better for me!!) I click "no thanks" yet again. Then, it wants comments about why I'm deleting my account. I could have gone into very lengthy detail about how I hated MySpace and it's parent company NewsCrap but at this point I just wanted to delete my damned account and get it over with.. so I just wrote "done with MySpace; I'm on Facebook now like most adults". I then click the "Cancel Account" button... and it tells me it could take 48 hours to delete my account! :banghead: All that trouble and my account STILL isn't deleted! Gah! :banghead:

ETA: Apparently the 48 hours came pretty quick. I am pleased to say I no longer have a MySpace account. :) Take THAT NewsCrap!

3. that was hilarious.
True too; MySpace went to the crapper when NewsCrap bought 'em out. NewsCrap is losing hundreds of millions because of MySpace; I doubt they will hold on the MySpace too much longer. I don't see MySpace making it out of 2010 alive.

2. My dear Terra Alta!
Thank you for having gone through all that! I've wanted to cancel my account there too, but had no clue as to how.

Now, I know!

5. Anytime, Peggy! :)
Be prepared for an interrogation when you cancel though. It's a hideous process but I'm glad I'm through with MySpace. The only bad thing is that I am now addicted to Facebook(although I'm wondering if that really is a bad thing?)

7. I've been meaning to deep six my account.
Now I guess I'll leave it abandoned. Let the spam accumulate and clog their server.
