Old TV shows and DVDs

I was thinking (dangerous I know) about all the old TV shows that are being released on DVD. I find myself watching them more than the new so called reality shows.

I understand why the networks are gung ho for "reality" programming (no need to pay union scale for actors, few, if any, writers etc). They are cheaper to produce than an original series. I just wonder whether people will want DVD sets of Survivor or the Bachlorette or any other "reality" series.

What about syndication. With fewer original series being produced will we be subject to repeats of Fear Factor on Nickelodeon in a couple of years? Perish the thought!

Just the rambling thoughts inside my head.

I am waiting for a series to be released specifically to DVD. Maybe we can get a better quality program that way. I know. I'm a dreamer.

2. Reality series have no syndication value

imho. I mean, once you know how they turn out--what's the point?

There is a disturbing lack of good new comedies on network television today. This "brain drain" is caused by (I think) the inability of networks to gamble on new and innovative sitcom ideas.

Reality shows can only go so far. HBO continues to develop hit new shows and will continue to slowly take over the broadcast networks' share of viewers in the years to come.
