One of my literary agents represented him or was related to him. I can't recall the details.

EDIT: No, sorry, it was the screenwriter of ARTHUR. He died at a young age. We had the same literary agent, and Chris Cross was not involved. Sorry for the confusion, this is my fault.

Frankly, Winehouse has not demonstrated the compositional skills of Douglas.
And, while Holliday's vocal range was technically limited, she had a profound influence on vocal phrasing.

(IMHO). If she gets her act together, and comes up with tunes like her "Black On Black" CD (which she wrote most of the song- and it's one of my favorites), she'll be awesome. Of course, given her many personal problems, who knows will happen.

Beside that, I was referring to the drop into relative obscurity that happens after some win so many accolades from their piers.

See I think they both are talented and I can appreciate talent and drive no matter what the genre of music they happen to prefer.

Dissing Christopher Cross because he doesn't write songs you like is akin to trashing Hemingway because you don't like manly novels...

I fear that Ms. Winehouse is buying into the hype about her bad girl persona and destroying what should have been and hope will be a long career.

Billy Holiday had a much harsher life than Ms. Winehouse ever will have and I don't believe Ms. Winehouse had to deal with a music industry that wasn't at all willing to let her talent out of a small racially confined niche of music.

The frustrations that Ms. Winehouse has to deal with are just that; frustrations. Ms. Holiday dealt with the stark reality of having to deal with a society willing to waste her talent just because she was black.

Winehouse hasn't done nearly enough to earn that comparison. Some people don't care about her personal life and still don't think much of her.
