But it really does depend on the job. I'm actually working for a company that I quit. I gave two weeks notice and left on good terms so I was re-hireable and did return.

Jobs I have applied for all seem to tell me up front how much notice is expected. For managerial people it is 30 days rather than 2 weeks.
