Usually they hang up after one or two times of me saying that, but ONE time the woman said, "Oh, I see. You don't speak English".

I answered "Da" and hung up.

the word "zaroorat" seems to be the same in both langauges. Are they close, useing many of the same words?

22. Here is how it was explained to me...

Most of the languages are interrelated.

The pashto speakers are in the minority and Dari seems to be the language of the upper class/more educated. That could just be perception though.

In any case most Pashto speakers understand Pashto and Dari. Dari speakers may or may not know Pashto though.

I imagine it's like English and Spanish in the South west. Most everyone speaks English but anyone who lives there and speaks spanish also understands English (at least a good bit.)

I'm still learning about the relationships between all the languages. I wanted to start on Dari but was told that I should go with Farsi. Seems that a Dari speaker will understand you, just hear it as a different accent. I figured I will maul it enough as is so I went with that. Plus the Farsi is more wide spread than Dari ( useful in Saudi, Iran etc.. etc...)

"suki desu" (I like (you)) **You is inferred. Its not really polite to say "anata" = You.
or

"Daisuki desu" (I like (you) a lot)

But in private between two people who fully want to share the emotion
will use "Aishiteru" = Love you.


"Aistiteru" used in public can be embarrassing to most Japanese.
