What is your favorite place to visit (that is not famous)?

4. You can camp right there. And it's typical desert climate for southwest.

Extreme southeast Arizona, right next to New Mexico and 50 miles from Mexico. It was completely manageable back in mid-October. The campground is called Bonita Creek and it is totally bonita.

I adore Zion National Park, though it's been awhile since I've been there.

One of the best things about Massachusetts is that there are parks owned by and taken care of by the Audobon Society, and they're all fantastic. My favorite of the parks here is World's End in Cohasset, MA, which inspired me to use "World's End" as part of my business name.

I can't walk as much as I would like, and I tire more easily. But many of these places have boardwalks, which helps out a lot.

15. Ojai, CA - It's only about an hour from where I live in L.A. It's a

spiritual vortex so when you're there a peaceful feeling overcomes you like nothing I've ever experienced. It's also incredibly beautiful. There's a meditation mountain there that makes you feel like you're in Heaven when you're there. In the town itself, there are awesome shops, an incredible park that often times has wonderful art shows (Many artist live there). It's so laid back that you simply can't feel great while there. I'm so fortunate to live close to such an amazing place.

I'd suggest heading out to PCH south of Oxnard and hiking Sycamore Canyon. As peaceful as Ojai with ocean views.

I've done the coast drive from Carmel through Big Sur down to LA many times. Such variety, such beauty everywhere.

44. It was brighter than that,

the sun was higher up and we were higher up, on a platform, and the sunlight was reflecting off every little wave and every rock, and it was almost blinding but still irresistible, it almost turned colorless because all we could see was light and shadow. I was unable to get a picture of it, but I'm sure that kind of sunset happens frequently all along the coast. The entire coast of California from San Simeon up to Carmel is really gorgeous and should have been made a national park, but at least the people that own the various properties have kept it relatively pristine. I think Point Lobos and Yosemite Valley are the 2 most beautiful places in California.

Those are my two favorites as well. I used to make an annual pilgrimage to Yosemite in late May, before tourist season started, and when the waterfalls were at their peak with the snow runoff. I once went to a wedding held in the Mariposa Sequoia grove.

There is a lot of competition in California for most beautiful, however. I like the Lake Tahoe area as well, as well as hiking up in the Sierra Nevadas.

21. Don't know how famous it is - Ft. Laramie, Wyoming

There's just an atmosphere there. It's right by the Oregon Trail, and has history of all kinds. I used to live in Cheyenne and will be moving back later this year or next year. It'll be one of my first road trips!

48. Two places back home in Charlotte

Freedom Park:

As a kid, going to Freedom Park was a luxury, because we lived on the opposite side of town.
As a young adult, it was a favorite place to take dates for a picnic, or to go and listen to
the Charlotte Pops Orchestra on a summer Sunday evening. There's still a week-long arts festival
every September, and if it weren't for school, i would take Lyric and LyricKid down every year.


and Elmwood Cemetery (and before anyone asks, no, i don't know a single person buried there)

Elmwood is one of the oldest cemeteries in the city (the oldest is in the Presbyterian churchyard downtown),
and is home to some truly amazing statuary and crypt architecture. I've been going there to take photos
of the statues since i was a teenager. The pic above is my desktop background.
