I gagged when I went to the bank today...
I got in the drive-thru lane at my husband's bank to cash a check, and there on the end of the tube was the word "Diebold".

Good Gawd.

I parked the car and went inside to cash the check...and I politely told the teller why.

1. Get used to it

Banks have been using Diebold equipment for a very long time, especially safes, night depositories, and ATMs.

And anyone who works for a bank knows it's pronounced DEE-bold.

5. I'm sure they have...
I'm only realizing it now, though, due to the voting machine scandal.

I'd like to know who ELSE makes ATMs.

I'd like to boycott Diebold's equipment as much as I possibly can.

4. they make those computerized voting machines
you know, the ones with no verifiable paper trail, which makes it possible to rig an election using them.

3. banks
Diebold is the maker of a lot of bank equipment like night depositories, pneumatic tubes, etc. Their name has been around local bank branches for years - I mean like at least 20 years. Most of the stuff they used to make was the non-electronic equipment that handles the documents, checks, cash, whatever.

6. If that was your first experience with Diebold-
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 06:35 PM by MiltonLeBerle
you must not have been to the bank too many times in the last 30 years or so.
(btw- the teller probably thought you were nuts)

good gawd.

11. Just never noticed the maker of the equipment before...
I probably wouldn't have noticed the name on the tube if it hadn't been Diebold.

Is that really so odd? Do you read the labels on every piece of equipment you come into contact with?

If any opportunity exists to boycott items manufactured by Diebold until they resolve the voting machine issue, why not take it?

And why would I care whether the teller thought I was nuts or not?

12. The problem with that
is that you also boycott the alarm and video systems that protect the tellers and customers.

13. Not necessarily...
Aren't there other manufacturers of these products?

Who else makes ATMs?

It stands to reason that we can't boycott every product they make; but knowing which products we can effectively boycott, and following through on that, might put enough of a dent in their budget to make them think a little.
