Poll question: Bob Newhart Show or Newhart?
Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 06:10 PM by CreekDog
My favorite episode "My Fair Larry" (where Joanna tries to help Larry, Darryl and Darryl with their restaurant "service") definitely makes the latter my favorite overall.

Teaching scene:

Darryl serves Dick a hamburger and Dick begins eating it

Other Darryl serves Dick a glass of water

Dick: There's a hair in this water

Larry removes the hair with bbq tongs, returns it to Dick...Dick pushes the glass away

Joanna: Food or drink that have come in contact with any foreign object should not be served

Darryl removes the glass of water

other Darryl removes the half-eaten hamburger

that show had its moments, especially when they let it get a bit goofy.

2. Need an option for "Too Close to Call".
I love watching reruns of both of those, and the first Newhart show started when I was still a toddler -- I think -- or perhaps even earlier.

(goes to peek at Wikipedia)

Yeah, I was 3 1/2 when it started. :)

6. I used to like Newhart better, but since getting into the Bob Newhart show on DVD

I've flipped. The original show was before my time, and when I was a kid I didn't really get the random episodes I caught in syndication a time or two. I always liked Newhart, though.

But a few years ago I decided to give the older show another shot, and picked up the first season on DVD. Total revelation.

I still like the second show as well--especially when it started getting quirkier after the first couple of seasons. :D

Great comedy without resorting to all the lowbrow stuff they rely on today.

8. I like how Tom Poston appeared on both and stole the show.
'The Peeper' from the first series was my absolute favorite.

10. another favorite: Emily has a higher IQ than Bob.
She takes him to that dance and Bob is humiliated at every turn. The guy who could say names backward still makes me larf! "And what's your name? Um, Bob."

:D
