I had a beagle as a kid. Fred was a great dog. I miss that little guy. Even better if you have a chill one. They tend to have a strong hunting instinct. Enjoy! And good job on getting a good puppeh from a shelter. :toast:

Coupla things: they are scent hunters, and when their nose catches a trail, their mind kinda goes blank and they can end up anywhere.
And they are their own dog. You only have an advisory role. If they like you, this usually works out OK.

And I'm thrilled you've got rescues. I do too, although I've gotten dogs from reputable breeders too. (Don't forget, there are reputable breeders out there, who love their dogs, wish the best for them, and take great care to find them responsible homes.) That said, I've gotta say that my rescue dogs are astonishingly grateful every day. It's terribly good for my ego. I think from now on I'll adopt rescues.
