Another music group thread. Any fans of The BOBS in the house?
A fantastic accapella group who are known for their cover versions (great original songs too). They were nominated for a grammy in '83 for their version of the Beatles "Helter Skelter" and released a whole CD of covers. I particularly love Cash's "Ring of Fire" and the Talking Head's "Psycho Killer". They also produced original pieces for NPR.
I hated it when Gunnar and Janie left the group. Those two had so much personality.

1. Saw them in a tiny club in Berkeley, in about 1988.
They were fantastic. Because I have an odd sense of humor, I enjoyed most their "Bus Plunge", which they acted out onstage as they sang. What a portrayal of claustrophobic panic. I still bring that song up in my mind from time to time. Wish I had a copy of some of their work. Another one for the list.

2. They're great!
Like the Persuasions (the greatest acappella group ever, IMHO!), the Bobs are great not only for their terrific harmonies, but for their unconventional choices of material. Terrific, terrific group!

Incidentally, for a unique listening experience, I strongly recommend THE PERSUASIONS SING FRANK ZAPPA.

3. I've seen them 3 times back in the late 80's
They were so much fun. Their original stuff is so off the wall. My favorites have to be "Prisoner of Funk" and "Trash". Oh, and maybe, "I hate the Beach Boys".
