I now live alone and don't cook much, especially nothing as big as a beef brisket. Post a picture later so I can enjoy your dinner vicariously.
Forget the turnips but add lots of cabbage.

We're not having it until the weekend.

I'm also considering picking up a brisket and corning it myself, but that's a ten day process, so I figure I'll be ready to do it by the 4th of July!

the pretty reds were $1.29 for 3 lbs, these kind of dirty rose color were 5 lbs for $1 - even cheaper than russets so I got 15 lbs - should last the boys a couple of days:eyes:

I'm just waiting for the cabbage to finish up then I'm going to scarf it down. It's been in the crockpot all day and for the past 3 hours the smell has been tormenting me!

Instead of boiling, use a lower (non-boiling) temperature and braise/poach it - you'll find it a lot more tender and flavorful!

23. Well I started with cold water, brought it to boiling, then dropped to a simmer. But I agree

that lower temps are good, hence the tastiness of a pot roast left all day in the crock pot. YUM!

26. Oh, thank God, you don't really boil it. There are those people who hear "boiled dinner"

and assume it is the literal instruction.

And they end up with crap. This is how my sister cooks. And she thinks it tastes fine. Ewww.
