The 2000 census and the dumbfuck census employee in Virginia.

In March of 2000, I lived in PA with my wife and three kids. I worked in N. VA and had a condo there to spend (generally) every other week at while working on site. I worked from PA the alternate weeks.

We filled out the census in PA, "wrote it down there, just like it was" (Arlo Guthrie). I had some idiot in VA who not only badgered me to fill it out but came up with all kinds of bogus threats about what would happen if I didn't. No matter how many times I explained that not only had I filled it out in PA but the VA condo was not my primary residence and it would be A FELONY to fill it out a second time for that residence, she just couldn't get it through her fucking skull. After about two months, she finally gave up.

I understand they are advertising for census workers now and specifically stating that no background check or drug tests are required. That should really improve the quality of the ground staff! :sarcasm:

7. I live in SW Ohio. Census wanted to send me to WV ?

Didn't make sense to me. Couldn't they find people in WV to conduct the census there? You always here about high unemployment in certain areas of West Virginia. So they couldn't employ some of these people?

Adding insult to injury, if I had agreed to work there, they would have reduced my hourly wage by $3.50, and they were evasive when I asked about reimbursement for living expenses.

I was a Census worker. I am not a Census worker now.
