I'm having my tooth pulled in the morning.

I'm not looking forward to it, but I really want this to be over. The oral surgeon is supposed to be really good -- my regular dentist said there wasn't enough of a tooth exposed for him to get a good grip on it. The oral surgeon has "more instruments" he can use. Oh that made me feel so much better.

Novocain, nitrous, mp3 cranked up. I'm still deciding what music to put on - Beethoven? Mozart? Creedence? Johnny Cash? Stones? My 'rockers' playlist?

Then motrin and an icebag I'm guessing.

1. I can only speak for myself, but ...

When the oral surgeon has pulled my teeth (I've had a few out), it has been painless and really quick. As in, five minutes or less. This is probably one of the simplest things they do, so I wouldn't worry. :)

Just make sure you keep that gauze in until you clot, assuming he doesn't stitch you up! Otherwise, ice it, and he'll probably give something for the pain if you need it.

Wow! That would be awesome! One of my wisdom teeth took over an hour because the roots were hooked around another tooth. The xrays don't show that here. So, maybe 5 minutes! Yes!!! I hate sitting in the dentist's chair for anything!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I probably won't need the pain stuff -- I once had vicodin and went very very loopy. Never again. Motrin will probably be all I need.

Naw, it isn't as bad as you imagine. In, out.. a day or so later all that constant pain you may have been feeling that caused you to get it pulled.. gone!

I forgot how much I loved RC until I had one pulled a year or two ago.

Actually, the tooth had a root canal and crown and broke off last week. There's less than 1/8" above the gum left. I haven't had any pain -- it just feels weird. It's a 2nd molar so I'm not going to do anything more. My regular dentist said it isn't worth it. How do you like that for honesty? What a great guy!

My brother swears by 'pickling' the tooth(hole) with hard liquor...you know, swish, swallow, repeat. But he lives in Florida, and people down there are funny.

20. It's a piece of cake. For real. It's so easy.

And you're not going to be in the chair long enough to use that MP3 thing. First, they give you a shot of novacaine. That is a little uncomfortable, but not really painful. You wait ten minutes. Then the surgeon looks in your mouth and while you are waiting for him to start, it will be over.

Most places don't have gas anymore. If your surgeon has it, he might give it to you to calm your nerves, but it really isn't necessary. Really, the worst thing about the whole procedure is waiting for the numbness to wear off hours after it is over.

vicodin once made me so goofy I thought I was at a ball game that was actually on the TV.

I took a Tylenol #3 an hour ago and it's kicking in as I type. At first it just took the edge off, now I'm getting s-l-e-e-p-y. It's a good time for a nap.

Have someone take you and bring you home -- don't, repeat, don't drive yourself. No way of telling what kind of reaction you'll have to the feel good meds.

The last tooth I had pulled was no sweat, but whatever doc gave me had me so looped, my friend had to tie a cord to my ankle to keep me from floating away.

YMMV, but don't take the chance.

Glad to hear all went well. It usually does now; the bad old days of dental horror shows are pretty much gone.

Do what doc told you and within a couple of days things should be back to normal.
