Anyone here watch American Idol?
Even though I consider myself a macho type of guy, I still enjoy the show. Last night, the football player got tossed. I thought that the African american girl (one with bad pink dress) should've been booted last night.

1. I agree, or the Hawaian chick
The football player wasn't the best guy there, but he shouldn't have been eliminated this early.

I think the show is rigged, personally.

2. As long as Fantasia wins the whole works, I don't care :)
She's the only really talented one there.

3. I'm glad they got rid of that steak-headed frat boy...
...honestly. He was just annoying and distracting both in his performance style and his joking threats and macho crapola.

I'm as much a mans man as the next guy but that guy just flat out sucked. It looked like the other contestants were scared of him as well.

I think some of the dimmer lights of this season aren't as bad as singers as they are as performers. Some of them seem way too nervous and as a result it affects their singing.

5. I thought that the pink hair girl did real well with her country song.
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 09:02 AM by smartass
She and fantasia had the best country performances. The rest of them were pretty boring.

The girl who sang that Eagles song was too nervous and shaky.

I think a lot of this show is rigged but what else do you expect from Fox, lol.

7. Yeah, that girl was good...
..and the girl that did the Garth Brooks song was good also. I don't like that they have a "country" theme night. It's distracting and doesn't go any way towards showing their prowess as singers.

I don't think it's rigged at all but I think they definitely try and manipulate a lot of stuff.

22. Yes that true people cross over all the time, but crossing over doesn't
then make them a pop singer nor does it make them a country singer.

6. I thought goateed meathead was AWFUL
Glad to see him go... The red-headed boy (John Stevens) was amazing! Also, the pink haired girl (Amy Adams) and Latoya London (what a name!) were amazing as well.

The others..... well John Peter Lewis is kind of cute, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to him sing.

14. Mark Rogers got the boot
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 09:36 AM by NeoProgressive
I was really surprised. His singing wasn't great, but his personality alone should have easily carried him another few rounds. He's got more than enough of it to spare half of the remaining contestants combined. But if we're basing this purely on talent, I don't get why Rogers got the boot, and not "Hobbit boy" -- John Peter Lewis, who has neither the charm or the voice. And yet Lewis seems to have achieved some level of "heartthrob factor". Then again, maybe it's more of the "freak factor"? I don't get it. He can't even hold a candle to the likes of Clay Aiken. And his voice isn't exactly going to burn CDs off the shelves.

Camillie (sp?), the Hawaiian girl who made the bottom 3 should have been gone this week. She may have a decent voice, but we'll never know if she doesn't find her confidence. She's still too nervous and shaky, plus she's had more chances now than she really deserves to get it together. Then again, she's got the entire state of Hawaii pulling for her.

I don't know about this year. Last year, it seemed like people won purely on talent. Almost from the beginning, I thought that it could have gone either way between Ruben or Clay for the top spot. Not that it matters now, as both are doing extremely well. This year seems to be much more of a popularity contest, however. If it's purely on talent, Fantasia wins, hands-down, with LaToya and Diana battling it out for second. But, as I suggested, the "Hawaii" factor x2 and the unexplainable popularity of a boy who looks like Frodo's cousin could possibly shake up this year's outcome.

8. Agree re Fixed
I too think the show is rigged. Fantasia is great,La Toya is also good, and the young Diana did a good job with her country song. Have a feeling the Dean Martin wanna be will win whole deal.Love to watch talent grow, hate all the "fillers" that they waste time with.Star Search on Sat. nights had awesome contestants, especially the junior singer Mark.

11. I don' think it's rigged either, but the way they do the voting pretty
much ensures that not the most talented will be picked. If american decides they like someone because of their personality they can stay on the show and win even.

13. I don't think it's fixed, but here are the ways I think...
...that they manipulate it.

-Last season they really wanted the marine guy to stay in, but he was clearly floundering with all the other styles they were throwing at them, so they did the Country theme to throw him a softball that was his style to keep him in the race.

-After all of the main ones are voted in by the people to the final group, they did the wild card thing by having the judges each pick someone. That way after the people have chosen who THEY like, if the producers determine the final group isn't photogenic enough or charming enough that they can have the judges pick ones who are.

There are other ways, but I think these are the main ones.

15. It should have been Camile Velasco
She has had two weeks of terrible performances now.

Diana DiGarmo, Fantasia Barrino, LaToya London and George Huff are going to be the top 4.... Jennifer Hudson is #5.

18. Diana Degarmo and Fantasia
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 10:49 AM by gulfcoastliberal
Are my faves... I agree re: meathead getting the boot. His singing just flat-out sucked. Hopefully the Hawaiin girl (Jasmine?) can recover from bad performance. Also agree regarding pink haired girl - she nailed that "Sin Wagon" Dixie Chicks song. A great performance from her this week. I also thought Diana Degarmo rocked, her vocal range just gives me chills.

19. c'mon, people . . . the only one of the lot who can sing worth spit is . .
LaToya London . . . every week her performance is at least a couple of notches above everyone else . . . of course, with the American public as the jurors, talent alone certainly doesn't guarantee a win . . . actually, I care not a whit who wins the damn thing . . . I've just been watching to see if they can figure a way to inject the redhead with some personality before this is all over . . . like they did with Aiken last year . . .
