Poll question: Has DU impacted your personal life?
As we all know, DU can be addictive, and for those with 1000's of
posts, it means you've taken the time away from your family and
loved ones. What has this impact been for you.

Have your partners and families ever complained about DU.
Myself i've more than once been saying to mine "Just a second, I'm not
finished with this post.... just a sec, and then we can talk."
and
been scolded for not dropping the internet for a live person.

Have you started talking about DU arguments that engross you at the
dinner table.... with guests? How much of an impact has this
virtual community had on your human relationships?

17. I'm sure Mrs sweetheart would say similarly..
I would recommend to the DU products marketing folks, that a series
of tshirts and coffee cups for "DU widows and widowers" would allow
the DU-dead to give gifts to the widows to gain entry to the
bedroom.. :-)

2. Met JanMichael here
got married, moved to a different town....

Yes. DU changed my whole life.

My life was already great...but, being married is better. Now I am better than great!

20. In the book "the iron heel"
DO you find your "man" to be similar to the protagonist. (earnest
everhard)

I mean politically, not whether he is everhard.... and impressive
feat of power for another thread!! :-)

21. I am not sure if he is or not
It seems to me that when Michael was reading that, it was over the holiday season...I was busy in school and work.

I will ask him about that when he comes home!

32. Politically, yes
I would say that my chances of becoming a true Revolutionary Leader are probably limited at this point and time. I would also have to say that London's character was certainly a more verbose and bitingly logical debater than I could ever imagine being. I am more of a browbeater.

Hope this helps!

Glad you enjoyed the book-

4. Other: No family, no problem!
:-)

Seriously, I've met some really good people here, people I would spend time with if I lived in the same city. But, like any other friendship, if I got seriously involved with someone, I suspect my DU-ing would decrease.

Then the arguments start: "OK, MY turn to read DU..." "Are you logged in, or am I?" etc....

9. I thought about that!
But, we are thinking about trying life with only one vehicle....it seems silly to have two computers! Particularly when both of us claim to NOT be addicted to DU!

btw, are you going to the march in DC in April?

Steph

On edit: and you too! We would like to meet you also! Wish we could get ShakeyDave to come-he is one of the most fun people to hang out with-

She gets home and immediately starts relating everything in LBN. I tend to stick to GD and the Lounge. So between us we get the entire DU experience sans I/P.

19. "I know you were on DU," my partner said last night...
after getting a busy signal for an hour trying to reach me. He was right; I had been catching up on reactions to the hearings.

No problem though; the only negative impact on my personal life is that a handful of times, 5 to 10, I've been so distraught over insults or attacks here that it impacted my mood later when I was supposed to be having fun. But that is countered by far more instances in which I've been extremely bummed out by some news story and found comfort in DUers who share the outrage.

26. my so teases me
since I used to get on his case so much about being online. Now the tables have turned. As this is pretty much my first experience of online talk ( other than Old House Web), I have to say it has been a lot of fun. It has revitalized my somewhat latent of late political and musical tendencies. But yes, it is addictive.

27. Oh my yes
I wouldn’t have been able to go to half the places I wanted to in the US without the assistance, encouragement, support, friendship and goodwill of a significant number of DU’ers. So many wonderful and kind DU’ers opened up their houses and hearts to me – a total stranger-and allowed me into their lives, allowed me to meet their families, showed me around their cities and much, much more. I am profoundly indebted to their kindness and generosity more than I could ever know.
