A hand me down from my olders sister, from my oldest sister who received it from my grandparents.

By the time I got the car, it had quite a few dings and some rust. The "Bruised Prune", as I affectionately called it, could really haul ass!

My father approached me about buying the crappy yellow Vega
with the smashed in front quarter panel owned by the guy
across the street from us.

He made me a deal -- he'd loan me $300 bucks if I could come
up with the other $300 of the $600 that our neighbor was
asking for the car. "It's a good deal", he told me.

I was 17 and I needed the car to get to the crappy community
college I was planning to go to, so I gave him the $300 bucks
and he arranged the sale. I paid him the other $300 over the summer.

Well, I drove that car for about a year, and one day, as I
parked it across the street, the guy who used to own it happened
to be out mowing his lawn. He turned off his mower and said,
"I can't believe that car is still running! I thought it was a
total loss after ...




















...your father pulled out of the driveway and crashed into it
last year!"

74. I've never quite understood the Colt Turbo.

And similar cars like the Omni GLH (Goes Like Hell). As you can see in the specs listed above, the Turbo Colt has around 20 lbs to carry around for every horsepower. That's NOT a very good weight to power ratio. Almost every car I've owned has a better power to weight ratio, yet only my current car is as fast. My current car only has to lug around 13 lbs for every horse and it's only slightly quicker than than the Turbo Colt. Even the torque spec doesn't seem all that impressive for a 2000 lb car. How on earth were those things so damned quick?

We spend the better part of 2 years restoring her, and i drove it for about 6 months (got my license in her).
After my half-sis and her kids destroyed it (he loaned it to her 'temporarily'), i bought from him the '75 GP
that he and my mom had been driving around for a while.

EDITED TO ADD: Though the body style was designed for a V8, mine had a V6 in it. My car's final trip ended with a telephone pole a couple feet closer to the passenger compartment than the grill used to be. I was picking glass out of my forehead for months. But I was alive.

Looked exactly like this one, except in the lighter "Ford Blue" shade.



Came with a 360 degree full-flow air cleaner, medium-rise intake, Holley 4 barrel carburetor, chrome valve covers, and Hurst shifter all from the factory.



That thing was a rocket sled. You could destroy a set of street tires on it in one afternoon.

You didn't actually steer it, you sort of kept it pointed in the right direction and held on for dear life.

Of all the cars I've ever owned, I wish I kept that one.

Well, not the heroin addict part, but the 1986 Toyota Tercel part. It was my parents' car and they gave it to my brother's friend after we went off to college. It had 150,000 miles on it when we gave it away and he drove it to 230,000 before it gave up the ghost.

Between me and my brother and a cousin we made it to 200,000 in the second one (which had about 70,000 when they bought it used) before giving it up, there was nothing really wrong with it - but moisture was getting in and there was no getting the mildew smell out of the upholstery.

Incidentally, the second car was also stolen, and once again it was stolen in Long Beach although the police found it immediately.

It died a natural death. I ended up giving it to one of those organizations that restore
the car and re sell them, and giving the money to my favorite charity. In this case, it went
to a Cat Shelter. I think they got $2,000 worth of Kitty litter and cat food.
