Alton Brown has a blog!

And it's not just all about food...check this out...

Friday, January 30, 2004
Georgia state school Superintendent Kathy Cox has decided that the word “evolution” is “…a buzzword that causes a lot of negative reaction” and should be replaced in all Georgia school curriculum with the phrase “biological changes over time”.

I agree. I hate buzzwords, don’t you? That’s why I think we should go one further and replace the phrase “slack-jawed backwater ignoramus” with the phrase “Kathy Cox”.

Just a suggestion.

5. I have begun to plan my life around Wednesday, 8:00pm.
It's the weekly airing of "Good Eats". If I'm not too tired, I stay up and watch the 10:30pm nightly shows.

I'm a geek, I know. :-)

6. LOL!
I get my sister to tape it for me. :D

If I had Food Network, I'd just become a shriveled up recluse, never leaving the house.

8. TiVO, TiVO, TiVO
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 11:12 AM by supernova
*zombie voice*

I secretly covet Allen's multiple TiVOs. Some people get all the luck!

A wierd Oxymoron I've noticed about Food Network: For all the talk about food. What it looks like, what a good recipe is, how the cook it, how to use spices, how to choose wine, etc.

I don't feel a desire to eat more when watching it. It's like watchin it is just as good as having eaten it. Strange.

9. I might make the move to Digital cable...
...with that comes DVR, which is the same thing as TiVO.

The only thing stopping me is that I have two TVs, which means two converter boxes to rent. I'd only have one DVR though. There's only one of me. :D

10. Same for me with sat TV
I can get a better sat deal out here in the boonies. Maybe cable is priced differently where you are.

I find I'm less patient with commercials anymore. They're so numerous they detract from the story anymore. That's why I watch a lot of movies.

11. Well, I rent, so I can't really go satellite.
Digital cable with no extras is $51.35, and each converter is $7.99 and the DVR is $9.95. Add that to the $45 I pay in cable modem and we're talking serious funds!

Right now I have Standard cable at $46 a month and RoadRunner at $45 a month. The bill comes out to just under $100.

14. is NOT the same thing
All TiVos are DVRs, but not all DVRs are TiVos. Most cable/sat dvrs are really just a vcr with a hard drive instead of a tape. TiVo/Replay do so much more!

23. actually
Our DVR is more than just a glorified VCR. It does some things better than a TiVo, some things less.

For instance, it has dual tuner capacity built in, so I can actually record two things, and watch a recorded show, all at the same time.

I've got picture in picture capacity, too, which I've never had with digital cable before.

I can also watch all the channels on the digital spectrum, something a lot of TiVos can't handle.

Yeah, TiVo has a lot of features I wish I had, but the DVR programming is maturing, and will hopefully be catching up fairly soon.

One nice thing is, it's only ten bucks a month, and I didn't have to buy it. So when a new model comes out, I just head down to the cable office and trade it in. Or if this one breaks down, same thing. I'm not stuck with a $300 dollar investment and a monthly fee.

Martha reminds me of Hillary. Strong and doesn't give any of the creeps the satisfaction of seeing them cry or whine.

I use his recipe (or a variation of it) for Cesare Salad at least once a week. Best and easiest salad I've ever had.

25. After my doctor told me that I could
basically not eat anything unles it tastes like cardboard or styrafoam (sp?) I started living vicariously through the food channel.
.
:nopity:
.
Unfortunately, as I am a soldier in George Bush's army of unemployed, I have had to have my cable cut off, so no food channel.

I have a crush on Sarah Moulton.:loveya:
