26. Maisie is a very old English nickname.

It's been used for hundreds of years as a shorthand nickname for Margaret. My cousin, who is named Margaret, went by Macie (an alternate spelling) until she started her professional career after college. Lots of us still call her Macie when we see each other around the holidays.

Ian is a great name, it is helpful in knowing when a telemarketer calls. I've been called Ivan, Aaron, all you can imagine. My wife calls me In, which is what all the kids called me growing up. Don't mind that much. There was a joke, not a funny one but, it was: In go in the door. hahahah. yeah.

friend learned the hard way when she named her son Owen. He's the 3rd or 4th Owen in his class and she's so annoyed. She really wanted something unusual because her first and middle names were two of the most common names in the 70s.

I have a first/middle name combo that was super popular in the decade I was born, so originality is a big issue for me, too (though I'm hoping to avoid the temptation to go ultra-unique...which I think I'm going to fail miserably at.)

50. It's getting super popular. She's really bummed because both she and her

husband have very common names and worked really hard to come up with a name that was unusual but not insane or difficult to spell/pronounce. They thought Owen was perfect until they got him into daycare and realized there were several other Owens.

Owen is my husband's middle name and was my MIL's maiden name. We'd decided that if we had a boy he was gonna be Owen Davis (my maiden name and now middle name) Sand_____. I guess we dodged a bullet (even if it was 13 years ago) since it turned out we had a little girl...

13. If I had children, I would name them a common "family name"

I have found a lot of names that I like doing genealogy, and it would give me a chance to honor family history.

Faves: Jesse, Shad(rack), Israel, Daniel, Christopher, Henry for males and Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, Virginia, Jane for females

Some are very common, yes, but they are family names.

The two names that that I would NOT name a child but that I have found in my family tree: Zenithen (male) and Waudessa (female).

17. You have to be careful about using family names in my family.

My grandfather had siblings named Elfton and Dusendine to signify that they were the eleventh and twelfth children. I guess they were running short on names.

47. From the records I have,...

Waudessa was shortened to Dessie, and Zenithen to Zenie. They were not siblings, but the two shared a surname and it was an unusual and "funny" sounding last name to American English speakers (it is a German name).

If I have a boy next go round, his name will be James Hudson. :) My baby girl's name is Bella Rose. I hate that Bella is all popular now due to Twilight. I wanted my girl to be the only Bella. Many people have dogs named Bella I am also finding out. But I still love the name Bella Rose. And she is a beautiful rose! :)

Down here in the Southland, people name their daughters those awful genderless Southern-belle-yuppie names: Parker, Sloan, Lane, Shelby, and the barf-inducing Madison. My neighbor named her daughter Quinlan. Ugh.
