Saddened to have just learned of the passing of the legendary singer Johnny Maestro

My Dear Friend " JOHNNY MAESTRO" passed away today..... Last week we had wonderful & lovely conversations about our Lord. Johnny was a class act. He was truly a gentleman. :::...We will miss him. He sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" like an angel....

A distinctive and highly respected vocalist both among his peers and fans of early rock ‘n' roll, Maestro spent his life in the music business, scoring hits as lead singer of the Crests in the 1950s and then the Brooklyn Bridge a decade later.

He continued performing live shows with the Brooklyn Bridge until he was diagnosed several months ago with an invasive cancer.

The Crests were best known for "Sixteen Candles," which peaked at No. 2 on the national charts and later lent its name to a John Hughes movie in which Hughes used a later Stray Cats version of the title song.

"Sixteen Candles" was originally written as "21 Candles," but the number was downsized on the theory that "16" would better reflect the rock 'n' roll demographic

3. what a voice!

he was a GREAT singer, as so many were from that generation. my aunt ( skeeter davis ) used to get a kick out of some of these no talent people making millions of dollars now days. they just dont make them like those guys anymore

Can't remember if I've already mentioned this in a reply to a post of yours, but I love her voice as well. I especially loved End of the World when it first came out,as did, obviously, millions of others, ( uh oh, giving away my geezerness) and it's on my you tube "favorites" list....

And as far as Johnny Maestro, truly a one in a million vocal talent. I very recently became a facebook "fan" of Dion Dimucci's ( one of my absolutely all-time favorite singers) and he posted the news of Johnny Maestro's passing . Whatever my religious views may or may not be, I'm glad to read that Dion and Johnny had good spiritual/religious conversations before Johnny's passing. I would imagine that these conversations were a comfort to him as he neared the end of his life.
