Should I be worried - my cat can open doors now

Every night I close the 2nd bedroom door. I have glass doors for my partially assembled bookshelf lying on the bed and I really don't want the cats jumping on them.

For the last 3 days I've woken up to find that Abbott has managed to get into the room (he likes sleeping on the radiator in the back bedroom.

Yet every night I test the door and I swear the door is closed

Should I be frightened?

1. Yep. My cats can open doors too.

Also they can turn on and off light switches. Once Sophie came into the bathroom with me while I took a bubble bath...She closed the door and then managed to turn off the light while I was in the tub....I think she was trying to kill me...:scared:

3. Not worried about that - it's the boy cat and he's not the smartest of cats

He gets more entertainment licking his non-existant pee-pee then he does doing smart cat things.

A pee-pee, that is. Unless he had it removed because of blockage issues. They usually keep them retracted. So, he's probably getting some legitimate entertainment there. ;-)

4. Yes. We had one who could do that - be VERY AFRAID!

He was slender but had a long body and long legs and could easily reach handles and knobs. He figured out the screen door handle early on and the door knobs weren't far behind. The ONLY way to deal with it is to put one of those hook latch and screw-eyes up high on the door where the cat can't get at it.

She caught 2 songbirds by ripping open a little square out of the window screen that allowed her to reach a paw out and nab a songbird or too. Matcom put a bounty on her head.

17. One of my cats does that

He can open bedroom doors, cupboards, drawers, etc. If we leave him home alone for too long, we come back to a god-awful mess because there's stuff in the drawers and cabinets that are fucking irresistible to a cat with no moral compass.

Our cats sleep in their "bedroom" at night, which is really just a large bathroom with lots of kitty amenities built in to it. We had to shut off the water to the toilet in their room because he learned how to flush the toilet. And would do it over and over and over all night long. I guess he got a lot of entertainment out of it.

Luckily, the little bastard is scared of going outside, so he doesn't touch our screen doors or front door. If he figured that out, I'd be really screwed because our other 3 cats (also indoor cats) are curious enough to go outside and get run over or shot by an angry republican.

18. One of mine has learned to open the dresser drawer

where I keep my socks. He works the drawer open and throws all the socks on the floor until he finds the ones he likes, which are the fuzzy ones. He takes those socks downstairs and leaves them in the kitchen near his food bowl. I think he considers fuzzy socks to be prey.

19. Yep, same behavior from my little explorer

He likes my wife's bras - he works at them until he tears the underwire out. The drawer with her delicates has to weight at least 50 pounds, but he swings from the drawer, opening it a 1/4 inch at a time until it's far enough open for him to climb in and start digging.

Another of my cats thinks it's cool to "kill" a stick he finds on the floor and put in on my pillow. If I put it in the garbage, he patiently waits until I'm not watching, digs it out, and puts it back on my pillow.
